This guide is a solution for an issue we have come across where Microsoft Word does not open when you try to create a new letter (via the Letters button, or through DMS).
We have found that the root cause of this issue (in the cases we have seen) is that Microsoft Word on the computer being used is set to "Read Mode". If your Microsoft Word only has the following three menu options, then it is most likely in Read Mode and you probably won't be able to create new letters.
Note: your view may look slightly different to ours depending on which version of Word you are running. The images below are for Word 2016; nevertheless, the same steps apply.
To get out of Read Mode, simply click on the "View" menu option, and select "Edit Mode".
This should switch Microsoft Word back into Edit Mode, giving you the ability to create new letters.
