In Dec 2019 we became aware of a potential problem for clients using both the Results module and the legacy HL7 processing modules (the ReferralNet or Medical Objects ticks in our registration).

The problem is that if a combination of these modules are enabled and configured to 'look' at the same folders, they may 'fight' over incoming results and letters. If users aren't aware of the different way that HL7 files are processed by the different modules, it can then appear that some are missed.

This problem is unlikely because by default the modules look in different places. However it is possible if configured specifically that way. (That said the chances are very low - the potential for the problem has existed for a number of years, but only now have we found it mis-configured for a single practice only.)

For safety's sake, if you have both modules on we suggest turning off the legacy module, i.e. Referral Net or Medical Objects. Instructions are further below.

The older modules (ReferralNet or Medical Objects ticks) were more for incoming referral letters, and would pick-up the HL7 files and put them in the Letters area of Medilink, and add the patient to the Waiting List. While these modules have largely been deprecated by the newer Results module, there are some clients who still use them, and so for the foreseeable future we will be supporting them.

The newer Results module works like a more general purpose inbox for all types of HL7 (results/letters/etc) and has built in systems for managing and processing these results. Because of this, it supersedes the older modules.

To turn off Referral Net or Medical Objects modules:

  1. Accounting Screen (patient screen)
  2. File Menu
  3. General Options
  4. Untick Check ReferralNet and/or Check Medical Objects
